Description

An absolutely stunning cortijo in typical Alpujarran style but designed and built in a modern, spacious way to the highest standards of workmanship and materials.

It may look like it has been there forever but it is less than twenty years old and set in a totally tranquil environment only 5 minutes by car or 20 mins walk from the centre of Orgiva, capital of the Alpujarras with all services such as schools, health centre, shops, restaurants, bars etc. etc.

The house was designed by a Swiss architect specifically for the family that have lived in it. Unlike most Spanish cortijos which traditionally have small rooms, this cortijo has the opposite: a few very large and light rooms with central heating and air conditioning where needed. It is comfortable modern living with all of the charm of the past.

The main house, which is built on one level in an L shape (to avoid disturbing an old olive tree) consists of two wings:

Reception wing: entrance hall with toilet off; three steps down to the magnificent salon with open fireplace, picture window bringing the view into the room and two sets of patio doors; dining room with patio doors to the porch; farmhouse kitchen with island and barn door to the outside, pantry; and laundry.

Bedroom wing: back through the entrance hall a corridor leads to the bedrooms: a very large double bedroom with twin/double beds, sofa bed and writing area; en-suite bathroom and built in wardrobes; a second huge salon with open fire and patio doors; master bedroom with two sets of patio doors, extensive bathroom with bath, shower and toilet in a separate room; dressing room (or bedroom 3) and a second dressing room (or bedroom 4). Both former dressing rooms also have doors into the bathroom. The master bedroom has electric shutters controlled by bedside switches enabling them to be raised without leaving the bed.

The whole house is in impeccable condition, ready to move into. The furniture may be available subject to separate negotiation.

Outside the house is surrounded by paved walkways and outside the main salon is a huge covered porch with both lounge and dining areas and even a play area for children.

The property is entered via both pedestrian and vehicular gates, both of which are electrically controlled.from the house. Inside the gate there is parking for two cars in a discreet area to the left and the are between the gate and the house is formed by an attractive gravelled drive. It is possible to park several mor cars in this area if necessary. There is a separate casita which houses a large garage and a guest apartment with twin (or double) beds, a lounge area, a bathroom, a wardrobe and hidden behind slatted doors, a kitchenette.

The grounds, which are terraced, are planted mostly to olive trees together with some citrus and other fruit trees. There is also an extensive are formerly used as a vegetable garden.

The property has all mains services and irrigation rights, the water for which is stored in a large underground tank. Irrigation is controlled by zones.

Access to the property is mostly by asphalt road with only the last 500 metres on good track.

There are gardeners available to look after the grounds, one of whom commented that he was retired but still kept working at the property because it is such a paradise as he said.

The word unique is overused but there is no other cortijo like this in the whole of the Alpujarras. Absolutely stunning.
